What the EternalMonitor apps send, why, and how to turn it off.
What the apps send
Automatic sharing is on by default in both the Windows app and the iPad app. While the apps run, they send diagnostics to EternalMonitor support. If an upload can't get through, it is kept on the device and sent after reconnecting or the next time the app opens.
- Device details, such as app version, iPad model, Windows version and graphics hardware.
- Errors and other lines from the apps' logs.
- Stream statistics, such as frame rate and dropped frames.
- Names and addresses that appear in these logs: your PC's name, your iPad's name, your Windows user name where it appears in file paths, the names of audio devices, and local network addresses.
- A random installation ID each app creates the first time it runs, so we can find your diagnostics. The PC and the iPad each have their own.
Why
To find out why a connection or the picture fails, and to make the apps more reliable. The apps work the same with sharing off.
What is never sent
- What's on your screen.
- Audio.
- Pairing codes and tokens. They are removed before anything is saved or sent.
Where it is stored
Uploads use encrypted HTTPS. They pass through Vercel and are stored in a Supabase database in the US East region.
How long
Diagnostics are kept for up to 30 days and may be removed sooner when storage limits are reached. Deleted or expired diagnostics can remain in daily backups for up to 7 more days.
Turn sharing off
- Windows
- Open Settings. Under Support diagnostics, turn off Automatically share diagnostics.
- iPad
- Open Settings, then Support, then Diagnostics, and turn off Automatically share diagnostics.
Turning it off clears anything waiting to upload. Diagnostics already sent are deleted on the schedule above. You can still export or copy a report yourself, and it only reaches us if you send it.
Ask us to delete your diagnostics
First turn sharing off on every device whose diagnostics you want deleted, as above. Otherwise uploads waiting to retry can send new diagnostics after we delete the old ones.
Then find each device's ID. The PC and the iPad each have their own, so send both to delete both.
- Windows
- In Settings, under Automatically share diagnostics, write down the 32-character value after installation_id=. Or click Send feedback, then Copy with logs: the copied text includes it.
- iPad
- Copy the Support ID in Settings, then Support, then Diagnostics, in versions that show it. Otherwise tap Copy diagnostics there and send that.
Email the IDs to hello@sideband.studio. We'll delete everything stored under them. Copies in backups are gone within 7 days.
